[ES] Resumen: El objetivo del presente artículo es analizar la imagen y presencia del desertor en los ejércitos de época paleobabilónica (cal. s. XX – XVI a.n.e.), aspecto que se encuentra subrepresentado en los textos de carácter público acadios, como en las inscripciones públicas y en los textos literarios, como la Epopeya de Gilgameš, que aunque esté fechado en una época anterior a la que aquí se analiza es un texto atemporal, ya que está presente en todos los períodos a partir de su aparición. Esta característica de las fuentes objeto de estudio se puede considerar normal y como una pauta si se tiene en cuenta que el objetivo de estas sociedades era el de mostrarse invulnerables y poderosas ante cualquier extranjero que visitara el reino. Así, para lograr este propósito se analizarán distintos documentos procedentes de los archivos reales de Mari (Tell Hariri) y de los archivos de šemšāra (Tell šemšāra), los cuales se corresponden con cartas enviadas por altos cargos del ejército, como Baḫdî-Lîm, y reyes, como Samsî-Addu o Kuwari. Todos estos documentos han sido traducidos desde el acadio al castellano para aportar una mejor aproximación a éstos, ofreciendo su correspondiente transcripción. Sin embargo, antes de proceder a la exposición del caso a partir de los textos seleccionados se ha considerado oportuno incluir un breve contexto histórico, así como una breve explicación de los archivos de donde proceden las tablillas; además, se ha decidido incluir un análisis de todos los términos acadios empleados para hacer referencia a la deserción o al desertor. Con todo ello se pretende conseguir una mejor comprensión tanto de los documentos que se han seleccionado como de la representación de la deserción o el desertor en el ya mencionado contexto histórico. La finalidad de todos estos análisis es demostrar que la deserción es una práctica regular dentro de la irregularidad con la que queda representada en las fuentes paleobabilónicas de carácter público.

[EN] Abstract: This paper aims to analyse the image and the presence of deserters in the armies of the Old Babylonian period (c. XX – XVI cal. B.C.E.), somewhat underrepresented in the Akkadian public texts, as public inscriptions or literary texts. As an example, we can evoke the Epic of Gilgameš, a text dating from an older period but that we can classify as a timeless document, because it is present in all the periods since its literary creation. If we consider that the aim of these societies was to show to foreigners that they were invulnerable and powerful, we can then consider this characteristic of these sources as normal and as a guideline. Therefore, to achieve the objectives of this paper, we will analyse different documents from the royal archives of Mari (Tell Hariri) and from the šemšāra archives (Tell šemšāra), which correspond to letters sent by the upper ranks of the armies, like Baḫdî-Lîm, and the kings, like Samsî-Addu or Kuwari. We will expose all these texts translated from Akkadian to Spanish, in order to provide a better approximation to them; also, we will offer its corresponding transcription. However, before proceeding to expose the subject from the selected documents, we have considered opportune to include a brief historic context of the Old Babylonian period and a concise summary of the two archives from which the tablets come; furthermore, we have decided to do an analysis of all the Akkadian words which were used to refer the desertion or the deserter. With all of this, we intend to achieve a better comprehension of both selected documents and the representation of the desertion and the deserter. The final purpose of all these analysis is to prove that desertion was a regular practice within the irregularity with which was represented in the Old Babylonian sources.

El 26 de Octubre en la Universitat Autonòma de Barcelona.

The presence of emperor fishes has been reported in several archaeo‐ichthyological studies in Eastern Arabia. The spangled emperor (Lethrinus nebulosus) is one of the main species currently composing annual landings in the central and southern Persian Gulf. Its presence outlines the importance of the coastal environments exploited during different life cycle stages, such as open‐water reefs and sheltered embayments, including grass beds. Osteometrical methods for estimating the life‐size from bones were developed during the last few decades. Measurements taken from the bones of 32 fresh spangled emperors, collected from a fish market in Umm al‐Quwain (United Arab Emirates) in February 2017, were exploited to calculate regression equations (power fits), allowing size estimations from archaeological remains. Because of the difficulties in identifying emperor species using bones, we also tested and discussed the validity of a generic model.

The Neolithic site of Akab has provided more than 37,000 fish remains, mostly belonging to kawakawa tunas, trevallies, and seabreams, which suggest that fishing was essentially carried out during the winter. Relatively few bones (totalling 100 measurements) were identified as belonging to spangled emperors. However, because of the ecological features of this species, estimated sizes permitted investigations into which fishing grounds were exploited, and even provided new evidence regarding ancient seasonality of coastal occupation in Eastern Arabia.
